About Malika
I did not arrive at this work the easy way.
My body got there before my mind did.
Three injuries in three months. A fall in December. Then while still recovering, another fall in March. And then three burnt fingers on my right hand. Looking back, it is almost funny how persistent the message was. At the time, I was not listening.
With almost two decades in corporate HR, in banking and ICT, I spent years helping organisations build their people strategies while quietly losing track of my own. I was good at holding space for everyone else. What I did not notice was what that was costing me.
When I relocated from South Africa to Prague, I thought the change would help. And in some ways it did. But the version of me that arrived here was still running on the same empty tank.
It took those three injuries, and my husband saying quietly that the kids were growing up and needed less of me now, for me to stop and ask a question I had been avoiding for a very long time.
Who am I, when I am not needed?
What I found in that stillness became the work I now do. And I am still doing it. Not as someone who has it all figured out. As someone who has the tools, the training and the lived experience to walk alongside you.
That is what I bring to every person I work with. Not a finished story. A real one.
